Lice Treatment
Lice infestation referred to as pediculosis can be a very distressing problem.
It is not only distressing physically but can also be very embarrassing socially.
The lifecycle of lice is approximately of 30 days or a month during which it
passes through the three stages the nit, lymph and the adult stage. Lice
survive on blood, skin and the sebaceous secretions and would not live if
they are away from the body of a person for a period of more than two days.
Types of Lice
Lice can broadly be classified into three main types:
- Head lice
- Body lice and
- Pubic lice
The head lice are generally found behind the ears and the lower part of the head near the neck. Lice bite on the scalp of the person and these bites can result in itching and redness. Continuous scratching can worsen the situation and may lead to skin infections.
Head lice are generally transmitted through direct contact with a person having lice. It can also be transmitted in other ways like by sharing of pillows, combs and the like. Body lice on the other hand, generally occur due to unhygienic conditions and no personal hygiene. Contact with a person having lice is the common way in which body lice are transmitted. Pubic lice are transmitted through sexual contact.

- Do not share personal things like a comb with a person suffering from lice problem.
- Wash hair and keep hair and scalp clean.
Some of the popular home remedies suggested for lice treatment includes:
- Washing of the hair with vinegar. This would kill the nits and also the adult lice.
- Tea tree oil is known to be a good solution to the lice problem.
- There are also several mixtures that you would find in your own kitchen that can be used as a means to deal with the lice problem.
